There has been a gradual increase in interest in works with a
period of less than a certain threshold in both the instrumental New Music and
electroacoustic milieux in recent decades. However, there has been a startling
lack of reflection and debate on the exact parameters and features of the Miniatures Shop In Mumbai or "short
work" that has accompanied this trend.
With a variety of projects supporting the form now completed and
a vast number of miniatures available, it is now possible to better understand
the essence of this particular musical form by raising questions such as- Why
is it important or fascinating to write in this form(at)? What does it mean to
be a “miniature” in the first place?
The several debates that have sought to explore the distinctions
between miniature and non-miniature type have almost entirely focused on
length, with little definitive explanation for whether a certain duration — 60
or 90 seconds, 3 minutes, or 5 minutes — should be convincingly considered to
be the acceptable threshold identifying a work as a miniature.
An examination of more than a quarter-century's worth of
competitions, CD projects, instrumental ensemble programs, and other events in
which "miniatures," "electro-clips," and "works of
short duration" were featured will demonstrate how diverse and
contradictory ideas about "Miniatures
Shop In Mumbai" can be — for composers, producers,
and institutions alike.
Parallel to sorting through these projects and the works that were a part of them, a slew of individual items from a multitude of sources were also investigated an examination of more than a quarter-century's worth of competitions, CD projects, instrumental ensemble programs, and other events in which miniatures, electro-chips, and works of short.
